PinYin Versions of Chinese Children's Songs

A wonderful five-cassette series of children's Christian song tapes is available from Alleluia Bookstore & Press in Los Angeles. The songs are sung by children in Mandarin. Many of the tunes are familiar, with a few beautiful Chinese melodies included as well. The tapes are accompanied by booklets with the words of the songs in Chinese characters. Unfortunately, there is no pinyin or English in the booklets, but we have been slowly transcribing the Chinese characters into pinyin, and have attempted a literal English translation at the same time. Since we are only beginning Chinese students, the progress is slow, and frequent corrections are required. We have links to the songs completed so far, in Adobe PDF format, below. Each tape has about 24 songs on it. Most songs are very well done, but a few have a more "amateur" quality to them.

Alleluia Bookstore & Press has a catalog, which probably has hundreds of wonderful items, but it is entirely in Chinese characters. A Chinese friend identified these particular tapes for us, when we described what we were looking for.

The tape order numbers are 15763, 15764, 15765, 15766, and 19452 (for tapes 1-5 respectively). The price is $4.95 for each tape (as of 2002-11-20) Shipping is about $5. Online orders get a 10% discount. Online ordering is a little bit tricky, since everything is in Chinese. The "Search" page doesn't take order numbers, so you have to paste in the first three Chinese characters of the tape name to bring up the items. If you have no idea how to do this, just phone or fax.
